Residents of the Swiss city of Lugano, in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino (south of the country), will be able to use two types of cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and Tether, to pay taxes and other municipal bills, according to the news agency this Wednesday, according to the Local economic AWP.

Since March of last year, these payments could be made in invoices that can be processed through the local government’s online portal. This possibility will be extended to all municipal requirements, regardless of the amount requested and the type of service, as confirmed by the Lugano government itself.

The measure is part of Lugano’s so-called Plan B, a campaign to use blockchain technology as a basis to transform the city’s financial system.

The local Bitcoin Suisse platform will technically and financially support these payment methods, which have also been used for some time in the Swiss tourist town of Zermatt, in the Alps, and the canton of Zug, near Zurich, in the north of the country.
