Meta opens to the public a two-year-old tool that animates your children’s drawings thanks to artificial intelligence

-For the project, some 180,000 drawings of humans made by children have been used and, now, any user can use them so that the little ones in their house can have fun.

The approach that can be given to Artificial Intelligence goes beyond chatbots or the creation of images from scratch following guidelines in text format. A source code that Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp , released last Thursday is an example of this, since it uses AI, but not like Midjourney, ChatGPT, DALL-E or Bard have shown us in recent months.

Meta’s AI tool allows you to create cartoons through children’s hand-drawn drawings of human characters and began development in 2021. In total, almost 180,000 have been used for the animation which is now available on GitHub. Illustrations that could help other researchers continue to innovate.

“Our researchers have developed the first method of its kind to use AI to automatically animate figures of people and human characters drawn by children’s hands,” Meta’s statement says. By uploading drawings to our system, parents and children can watch their drawings become moving characters that dance and jump.”

For the system to detect drawings as human characters, they must have two arms, two legs, and a head. In this way, the little ones can be creative while understanding human anatomy in a fun way and with results that excite them.

Meta hopes that this project will bring him closer to developing “an AI that can understand the world from a human point of view.”
