Russian hackers blamed for cyberattack on British postal service

The problem is caused by the Lockbit cyberattack. The hackers used a malicious program that encrypts computer data and demands ransoms to prevent possible damage.

A group of hackers linked to Russia has paralyzed international shipments of the British postal service Royal Mail .

A spokesperson for the National Crime Agency (NCA) indicates that British intelligence services are investigating the origin of the cyberattack that affects the computer system for managing international shipments.

In the meantime, Royal Mail assures that it is “working hard” in an effort to solve a problem that paralyzes letters and packages that leave the United Kingdom abroad by dint of the company. Even though it has not detailed for The Telegraph newspaper when it expects restart the service.

This media outlet points out that the issue has been given rise by the assault laid by a group called Lockbit that used a malicious program that encrypts computer data and demands ransoms to bypass possible damage.

The Telegraph cites a message encrypted by a Lockbit member in a chat wherein he claims that the group “benefits from the hostile attitude of the West (towards Russia)”, since it “allows them to carry out this aggressive business and operate freely” within the borders of the former Soviet countries”.
